Morgan 3 Wheeler 'Bleazey' Chain Drive Conversion Kit'
Designed by Phil Bleazey specifically for the Morgan 3 Wheeler, this kit replaces the original belt-driven final drive with a conventional chain and sprocket system.
The conversion provides an alternative to the original belt arrangement and has become a well-known upgrade among Morgan 3 Wheeler owners. The kit includes all of the principal components required for the conversion, including the front and rear sprockets, carriers, chain and necessary fasteners.
Why convert to a Phil Bleazey Chain Drive?
- More tolerant of drivetrain movement – a belt drive relies on the front and rear pulleys remaining rigid and accurately parallel to maintain correct belt tracking. The Morgan 3 Wheeler drivetrain can struggle to maintain this alignment in operation, resulting in belt-tracking problems, noise and potential damage. This upgrade kit.....
- Eliminates belt-tracking noise – removing the belt eliminates the noise associated with belt misalignment and incorrect tracking.
- Prevents belt-tracking damage – eliminating the belt removes the risk of tracking problems causing contact with, and damage to, surrounding components such as the belt guard.
- Easier chain replacement – the chain can be changed without removing the rear swinging arm.
- Improved transmission efficiency – a chain drive can be approximately 3% more efficient than a belt drive.
- Readily available replacement chains – replacements are easy to source, and a spare is compact enough to carry on longer journeys.
- Flexible gearing options – changing sprocket sizes allows the final-drive gearing to be tailored for different uses, such as hill climbing or motorway driving.
- Reduced unsprung weight compared with the original belt-drive arrangement.
- Simple maintenance – the chain is easy to inspect and lubricate and, with appropriate maintenance, should provide around 20,000 miles of service.
- Reduced load on the bevel box – lower chain tension may help reduce operating temperatures within the bevel box.
The conversion kit includes:
- 1 × Rear sprocket
- 1 × Front sprocket
- 1 × Rear sprocket carrier
- 1 × Front sprocket carrier
- X-ring sealed drive chain
- All necessary fasteners
- Thread-locking compound
Installation
This is a specialist mechanical conversion and requires the existing belt-drive components to be removed and the new sprockets and carriers correctly installed and aligned.
Please ensure you are familiar with the installation requirements before ordering.
For more information about the conversion and installation, see Phil Bleazey's detailed video below.
Complete kit – no need to source the individual conversion components separately.
